We cannot wait for you to experience the beauties of Costa Rica with us
Come have an ADVENTURE with us. Crack open a cerveza and get ready for a week you will never forget.
To get to Santa Teresa you will need to book an international flight into
San Jose Airport (SJO).
From there you will need to book a hopper flight
You can fly Sansa or Green Airways(we have flown both) into Cobano
it’s usually about a 30 min drive from there to the town of Santa Teresa
*We recommend taking an overnight flight that lands in SJO early in the morning and then giving yourself approx. 2 hours in between your hopper flight
You also have the option of renting a car or taking a shuttle service from the SJO airport
into Santa Teresa.
The Logestics: Fly into San Jose Airport(SJO)
Plan to take an overnight flight so that you arrive to San Jose Airpot (SJO) early in the morning. This allows for ample time to make connections to land shuttles or local flights. Otherwise it may be necessary to schedule a night in SAN JOSE, as there are no shuttles nor flights during the evening (i.e. after 4 pm).
As for your departure, it's best to book your international flight home in the afternoon on your departure day from Santa Teresa. This way, you can check out of your hotel early and have enough time to travel to SJO for your afternoon flight.
Alternatively, if departing from Santa Teresa doesn't align with your flight schedule, it may be more practical to arrange your last night's stay in San Jose rather than Santa Teresa to facilitate a more convenient travel experience.
OPTION #1 aka the fastest and also our FAVORITE way
Take a 30 min flight to Tambor Airport (TMU) or Cobano (ACO) which is just a short drive away from Santa Teresa(about 30 min). Did I mention they offer FREE CERVEZAS?! Grab a beer and get ready for an incredible weekend. The flight is about $150 each way (just remember transportation can vary from $20-$60 from the Cobano airport to your hotel). You can book your flights directly through Sansa Airlines or Costa Rica Green Airways.
THE SMALL AIRPORT IS JUST A SHORT 2 MIN WALK FROM SJO AIRPORT. NO NEED TO HOP IN CAB.
PRO TIPS
-Give yourself 2 hours in between flights.
-Book an overnight flight out of LAX so that you land in SJO as early as possible so that you can make your 30 min hopper flight
-Also check the baggage weight limits when booking your ticket as it is not the same weight as major airlines. Max luggage weight is usually 40lbs with the more expensive fare. They do weigh you on arrival.
-if choosing to find your own transfer option from the Tambor or Cobano airport to Santa teresa I have used Transportation in Costa Rica several times and they have always been reliable and friendly. Recommend booking in advance.
-If you get sea sick it might be a good idea to pack some ginger chews.
-REMEMBER THIS IS AN ADVENTURE. HAVE A CERVEZA AND GET READY TO RELLLAXXX. THE VIEWS FROM THE PLANE ARE INCREDIBLE. ZACH AND I HAVE FLOWN THESE PLANES SEVERAL TIMES AND FEEL VERY SAFE AND SECURE.
Option #2 Arrive by Land and Sea
Another option is to book a shuttle service that offers door to door service. It will drive you from SJO Airport to the port of Puntarenas where you hop off, grab your bags and take a 90′ ferry trip to Paquera. The trip is super easy and nice. Once in Paquera you will hop back onto your shuttle bus that will drive you to your hotel in Santa Teresa.
Taking a San Jose to Santa Teresa shuttle is a very comfortable way to travel, but takes about 4.5 – 6 hours depending on whether you choose to go with a private shuttle or a shared shuttle.
By Shared Shuttle | 6 hour journey
By Private Shuttle | 4.5 hour journey
Cost is about $60-90 pp ONE WAY
Here are some options for shuttle service companies:
